The building was planned and built in 1962 by the architect Klaus Hoffmann as his home. It is clearly inspired by Alvar Aalto's house in Helsinki. The Hoffmann house has been preserved almost unchanged and is a listed building. The garden design with historical spoils is also part of the monument. The main challenge during the refurbishment is to adapt the building to the needs of the new users and to improve it in terms of energy efficiency, subject to the requirements of monument preservation.
